AI made production cheap. It made creativity, intent, and personality expensive. The same tool that generates a screen in seconds cannot decide who the screen is for, what it should never do, or why it should exist. That decision has to be authored — before the grid, before the prompt, before the build.

The AI era does not change what design is. It reveals what design always was: the decision that precedes everything else.

We take on definition work. We begin before the grid is placed, before the content is written, before the AI agent is prompted — with the question that all subsequent decisions depend on: who is this for, what do they need, and in what context do they encounter this system.

The output is a design document. Not a wireframe. Not a prototype. A governed specification — the persona, the five dimensions of digital experience, and the rules that constrain every decision that follows. The design document is the product. The screens are the consequence.

Definition work is appropriate when a system is being built or rebuilt and the governing principle is absent, assumed, or unclear. It is also appropriate when an existing system is being handed to AI tooling and nobody has written down what the system is actually supposed to do.

We don't produce visual design, brand identity, or finished screens. We don't do development. We don't do user research in the conventional sense — there are no interviews, no usability sessions, no synthesis workshops.

If you are looking for an agency to execute a brief, we are not the right fit. If you need the brief written before anyone executes it, we may be.
